FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions.

How many hours are required to obtain the license?

It depends on your previous experience, but you should expect to spend around 10 hours of intensive practice to be fully prepared for the expert level.

Where does the exam take place? The practical exam usually takes place from the port of Crans or a nearby port, with an official examiner on board.

Où se déroule l'examen ?

L'Examen Pratique se déroule au départ du port de Crans, avec un expert officiel à bord. Nous vous entrainons sur place pour vous familiariser à l'environnement le jour de votre examen pratique.

How long does the exam last?

The solo exam usually lasts one hour. The examiner will ask you to perform all the recommended exercises, usually twice in a row to confirm that you know how to do them. On the day of the exam, we suggest you go out for an hour before the lesson to get into the right frame of mind and navigate in the weather conditions that will prevail during the exam.

What is the language of the exam?

You can take the Sailing License exam in French or English. We offer courses accordingly.

How many of us are on board on exam day?

In Solo, there is you, the skipper-helmsman, the inspector, and our instructor who plays the role of crew member.

In Duo mode, you and your partner take turns as skipper and crew member. The Inspector and our Instructor are also on board.

Should it be windy on the day of your driver's license exam?

For the exam to take place, there must be a minimum wind speed (4-5 knots). We adjust the sail area according to weather conditions. However, as weather forecasting is an inexact science, we must remain flexible in order to find the right time slot to take the exam.

Similarly, during lessons, we can postpone them or perform maneuvers using the engine if the weather conditions are not favorable.
