Frequently asked questions.
To obtain a category A license (engine over 6 kW), you must be at least 18 years of age.
The Theory Test must be passed in order to schedule an appointment for the Practical Exam. This is something to take seriously early on in your Motorboat License project. Even without having passed the Theory Test, you can already take Motorboat License lessons. This generally allows you to understand certain theoretical aspects required for the exam.
The number of hours depends on each student. The SAN recommends an average of 14 to 16 hours of practice to master all the exam maneuvers (man overboard, docking, parking, etc.). This is an average. At the Crans Nautical Club, we generally offer around 12 hours of lessons.
The exam is scheduled to last one hour. If everything goes well, it may even be shorter. The examiner will ask you to do all the recommended exercises, which we have worked on during the lessons.
Be mindful of stress on the day of the exam. Our instructors are here to prepare you for this milestone. And remember: you are taking the Motorboat License exam for your enjoyment and leisure.
The Motorcycle License is mainly French spoken in Terre-Sainte. We mainly teach courses in this language. We can also start courses in English and gradually transition to French.
During the exam, you will be alone with the SAN expert. In exceptional circumstances, you may request that your instructor be present. This may be the case if you do not speak French at all, which is rare in the Holy Land.
On the day of the exam, a wind limit is imposed by the SAN Expert. During your training, we offer outings in strong winds to help you better understand the dynamics of motorboats in these conditions.
The exam takes place in the ports of Nyon, Prangins or Founex. As your training progresses, we will travel to the port chosen for your exam. Practicing in several ports will give you a more open mind and make it easier for you to adapt.
