Located on the shores of Lake Geneva, our sailing school uses the Topaz 14 as the cornerstone of its courses and lessons for teaching young sailors the basics and helping them improve their skills.

Designed to be stable, safe and fun, this dinghy is ideal for teenagers (recommended for ages 12 to 15) who want to master the basics of double-handed sailing and experience the thrill of gliding across the water for the first time.

Topaz 14 Catamaran Courses on Lake Geneva

We offer intensive courses during school holidays as well as year-round classes. Each session is supervised by qualified instructors from CN Crans, guaranteeing high-quality teaching and maximum safety.

On the program for our Topaz 14 camps:

  1. Introduction: Understanding the wind, adjusting the sails, starts and finishes.
  2. Improvement: Using the trapeze, hoisting the spinnaker, mastering tacking and jibing.
  3. Safety: Techniques for righting a capsized boat and compliance with navigation rules on Lake Geneva.

Evolution: Towards the Hobie 16 and beyond (From age 15)

Once they have mastered the basics of Topaz 14, sailors are ready to move up a gear!

Important information: For participants aged 15 and over (and with the required level), the legendary Hobie 16 sports catamaran is available during our sailing camps. This is an opportunity to discover competitive sailing and experience the power and glide of this legendary multihull, a natural transition to autonomy and performance.

At what age can you start Topaz 14 at CN Crans?

The Topaz 14 catamaran is generally recommended for teenagers aged 12 to 15. This boat is perfect for those who have already had some experience with Optimists or for beginners who are comfortable in the water and want to sail in pairs. For ages 15 to 17, we offer the Hobie Cat 16 experience.

What happens in case of unfavorable weather conditions (strong winds or calm conditions)?

Safety is our priority. If conditions on the lake do not allow for safe sailing, our instructors offer theoretical activities at the clubhouse (marine knots, racing rules, weather) or fun activities related to the nautical environment.

Do you need to have sailed before to sign up for a Topaz 14 course?

No, we offer tailored levels. The “Beginners” courses are designed for novices. If you already have some experience, the “Advanced” level will allow you to quickly improve your skills in using the spinnaker and trapeze.

How can we access the Hobie 16 mentioned in the camps?

Access to the Hobie 16 is reserved for participants in our sailing camps who are aged 15 and over and who have demonstrated good control of maneuvers on the Topaz 14 or equivalent. This progression is supervised by our instructors to ensure safety and enjoyment of high-performance sailing.
