The three starting shots rang out in early May for the traditional opening regatta of the Petit Lac Championship. Organized by the Club Nautique de Crans, this event marks the end of winter and a reunion for many sailors from the Lake Geneva region. With a touch of glamour, the day was a resounding success.
Despite the lake being unusually low for this time of year, 36 crews turned up for the first event of the season. Small and large boats from Petit Lac competed on two separate courses under bright sunshine. The Crans Sailing Club Race Committee perfectly set the course in line with the wind, much to the delight of the competitors.
The first start was given for the TCFX, TCF1, and TCF2 classes. After the winter break, the sailors were eager to get started. Too eager, in fact, as some of them set off too early, crossing the starting line before the starting gun was fired. Those who realized their mistake came back to cross the line again. The others sailed around the buoys for the sake of it. The TCF3, TCF4 and Surprise classes, spectators to this debacle, made a more sensible start on their shortened course.
Three laps later, all crews crossed the finish line safely. The weather conditions on the day were ideal for getting back into shape before the big events in June (Geneva-Rolle-Geneva and Bol d’Or). Once the boats had been brought back to port, the CNCrans Committee held the prize-giving ceremony in a festive atmosphere.
After a forced hibernation, the sailors were delighted to meet up at the Club House to chat, even if it was very late.
Once again, the CNC Committee and volunteers provided a wonderful day for the Lake Geneva sailing community. The day was immortalized by Doodsie Photo.
